Star Wars "Lost Tribe of the Sith: Paragon" by John Jackson Miller

The Suvudu Free Library released the third part in the Star Wars Lost Tribe of the Sith series this month titled Lost Tribe of the Sith: Paragon by John Jackson Miller. Another wonderful addition to this series which dives us into the reality of what it means to be Sith, how this tribe came to be and their struggles for internal and external power. This short series has been a fantastic edition to Star Wars lore and does not dissapoint.
Here is a synopsis from the Suvudu Free Library:

The ruthless cunning of the Sith Order has served the shipwrecked crew of the Omen well on the alien planet Kesh. Subjugating the superstitious Keshiri race by posing as its fabled overlords has ensured the Sith's survival -- while they struggle in secret to return to the stars. Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Allies - Cover Revealed!

Earlier today Starwars.com released the cover for the highly anticipated fifth book in the Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi series, "Allies" by Christie Golden. The book will be released in June of 2010 so there is no synopsis yet, but the cover truly makes the imagination wonder where we are all headed in this series!

Target - Taking over...Mercury?

I saw the original photo (left) on NASA's "Astronomy Picture of the Day" and could not resist. It seems Target has set some new goals...to take over MERCURY! Science Fiction? Fantasy? Reality? Dun dun duuunnnnnnn.

Here is a little blurb from the NASA website in regard to the original photo of "A Double Ring Basin on Mercury":
"What caused the smooth floor inside the double ringed basin on Mercury? No one is sure. The unusual feature spans 160 kilometers and was imaged during the robotic MESSENGER spacecraft's swing past our Solar System's innermost planet last week. Double and multiple ringed basins, although rare, have also been imaged in years past on Mars, Venus, Earth, and Earth's Moon. Mercury itself has several doubles, including huge Caloris basin, Rembrandt basin, and enigmatic Raditladi basin. Most large multiple ringed basins on planets and moons are caused initially by a forceful impact by a single asteroid or comet fragment. One interesting feature of the above-imaged double ring is that the basin center appears much smoother than the region between the rings. Possibly, the internal floor was smoothed by later volcanic activity. Also possible, however, is that the floor was smoothed by melting and flowing of material upon impact. MESSENGER has now completed its last flyby of Mercury but will return and attempt to enter orbit in 2011 March."

Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith: Skyborn

In August the free Suvudu library released the second free official Star Wars e-book entitled "Lost Tribe of the Sith: Skyborn" by John Jackson Miller. These stories tell the largely untold story of the Sith and are featured prominently in the Fate of the Jedi novel series.

Many of you have probably read the "Fate of the Jedi" series as it is written thus far. There are currently two published books ("Outcast" by Aaron Allston & "Omen" by Christie Golden). Tauntaun Sleeping Bags - April Fool's Joke Turned Reality...Soon.

LA Weekly columnist Gendy Alimurung just wrote an excellent article about an April Fool's Joke gone terribly...right! For 2009 ThinkGeek.com had a slew of April Fool's Joke item listings including an Ultimate Assassin's Weapon Ice Mold, a USB Pet Rock, and of course the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag. Apparently the promise of a "Classic Star Wars sleeping bag (that) simulates the warmth of a Tauntaun carcass" is ideal for Star Wars fans and they weren't too happy it was not available! If it was good enough for Luke, I suppose its good enough for me and my kids!

Which leads to this week. Shane Peterman, Think Geeks Public Relations manager, told LA Weekly that they are trying to obtain a license from Lucasfilms in order to actually produce the sleeping bag! They have no idea when this will occur, or if ever, it is all in the hands of Lucasfilms now to approve or deny the license so they can start production on a viable scale.

The joke price was $39 as listed, but I'm getting collectors and geeks alike will pay more for something of this caliber! People are already commenting on the article saying they would pay upward of $89! I'd love to have one, but for $89 it better be a -20 degree thermal sleeping bag at least! :)

What do you think? Would you want one? How much would you be willing to pay? Adult or children's sizes? Both? I know you want to sleep under the stars with children in tow, all enjoying a nice warm Tauntaun to sleep in!

Quite a sad Autobot...I found this while browsing Tor.com this evening. The article I was viewing is all about how the Transformers movies should have been done and how they more resemble GoBots than anything related to Transformers. Quite an interesting read.

I haven't heard anything good about the new Transformers movie yet, mostly bad things such as how it's too long and that the first one was much better. Have you seen it? What do you think?

Below is a great video compilation (with great music) of just released pictures for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland which is due to be released March 10, 2010. Burton told Disney's Disney 23 Magazine (D23), "It's kind of a mixture of some distorted live action and animation. I can't relate it to anything because I'm not sure what to relate it to. It's kind of new territory for me."

Im sure it will be quite interesting and have a spin on Alice none of us have ever seen before. Unless you read the Grimm Fairy Tale "Return to Wonderland" by Zenescope Entertainment.

I recently started reading Terry Brooks' "The Magic Kingdom of Landover" series and I love it! At first I found it a bit too "kiddy" for me, but then it started evolving into a great world and a wonderful story. Funny enough, I havent read "Magic Kindgom for Sale--Sold!"and it's the first in the series! I apparently started at book number 3 and went forward.

HeroQuest

Here is the US commercial for HeroQuest, a roleplaying board game published back in 1989 and 1990. Basically a stripped down Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) board game, but it is amazing and I love it! I finally found someone else to play with, my brother in law! It's older than he is, but he still enjoys it and thats the key component! Its fun to watch him smile and laugh when I use my Dungeon Master "voice" during the introductions and when the game calls for it. The local comic book store said I could arrange a game if I wanted and use their massive gaming space which could be amazingly fun and bring some HeroQuest back to my area! I'll probably get laughed at by all of the D&D leet gamers, but who cares, Im having fun!

If you don't know anything about the original HeroQuest you can visit the wiki here. This isnt the silly video game someone made or the "newer" version of the roleplaying game after the name was sold off, its the board game! The good one! :)

Oh and if you have this game and want to play let me know! Or if you want to sell it and any of its expansions, extra pieces, etc, I'm interested!

This is just amazing. It had me smiling and giggling like an 8 year old on Christmas morning. This trailer is by far the best video game trailer I have seen in a long time. Excellent lightsaber battles with large groups of Jedi and Sith. You can't get any better. Even some Matrix action in there to make it that much more awestriking. "You have been deceived". You gotta love that stuff. I'm going to watch it again before bed.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra Trailer

I'm not sure how I feel about the movie "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" thus far. I've always been a fan of the series, some great animated movies have come out of the franchise, but this one just isn't doing it for me yet. So far I've seen no "GO JOE!" that we have all come to know and love, or the other few simple things that made the original cartoon great. I'm sure I will grow to love it once we start seeing more and more through trailers and more screens. Until then...enjoy this!

Amazing Dragon Cake

Yes that is a cake! I could hardly believe it at first! I found this while searching Google images for some writing inspiration. It's AMAZING! This cake was created for a special D&D get together, followed by a meal of corn dogs and cheese sticks! What a feast!

I just couldnt imagine being the one to cut into this precious cake. I couldnt do it. I would want to flash freeze it and put it on display somewhere. Just look at the poor thing below. It would be heart breaking...I wonder if it had a heart!

Today, May 3rd 2009 at 16:00 GMT (9:00 AM PST), Rickety Shack Films is releasing "The Hunt for Gollum"; a 40 minute independent film based on Tolkien's writings and the Lord of the Rings series.

Here is an excerpt from the official website:
"The script is adapted from elements of the appendices of The Lord of the Rings. The story follows the Heir of Isildur; the "greatest huntsman and traveller in Middle Earth" as he sets out to find the creature Gollum. The creature must be found to discover the truth about the Ring, and to protect the future Ringbearer."

UPDATE:
The movie is actually quite good for a low budget film where no one makes a dime. I loved the little details that I had never really though about before. Quite a good addition to the Lord of the Rings canon!

Donato Giancola: "Best Professional Artist"

Donato Giancola is one of my favorite science fiction and fantasy artists who truly captures both genres in their true essences. If you haven't already heard he has been nominated as "Best Professional Artist" for the 2009 Hugo Award Nominations. Other nominees include Daniel Dos Santos, Bob Eggleton, John Picacio, Shaun Tan, and Stephan Martiniere (although Stephan pulled his nomination since he won last year). Definitely a great crowd to be a part of! Some of the artwork that made him eligible are (shown below): Imager and The Stars Down Under.

You may have seen Donato's artwork on many book covers, in numerous Lord of the Rings and Hobbit paintings (his true passion), Magic the Gathering (card game), or various other science fiction and fantasy related media. Where the Wild Things Are: Movie Trailer!

The first trailer for the "Where the Wild Things Are" movie was released today! Hopefully all of you remember this loveable and classic book by Maurice Sendak. There is no exact release date as of yet, but they have penned down the month to October of 2009. This may sound familiar as this movie was to be released over 1 year ago, but got yanked from the release list due to some director/publisher disputes. I am happy to see it on Warner Brothers release list once again!

Here is the plot outline courtesy of Wikipedia:

"The film concerns the imaginary adventures of a young boy named Max, who is angry after being sent to his room without supper. He then creates a forest inhabited by many large imaginary monsters, who crown him their ruler. He then befriends a large monster called Carol, who helps him understand the meaning of love."

Admittedly I was a bit skeptical when I first heard of the movie back in 2007, but the trailer actually looks good! I look forward to seeing more in the near future!

The Wheel of Time: Eye of the World #0 - Dragonmount

I love the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. At first I found the sheer size of the massive series daunting, but once I got into Eye of the World (the first written book of the series), that physical size went away and was replaced by a wonderful world!

Dabel Brothers Publishing will be releasing "The Wheel of Time: Eye of the World #0 - Dragonmount", a Graphic Novel, April 29th 2009. From what I have seen so far the graphic novel based upon Eye of the World does the original work justice. Chase Conley does the cover and internal artwork for this graphic novel, and Chick Dixon adapts the original written work into the graphic novel format. Lets face it, you can't have as much "written" detail, but the physical imagery is what makes graphic novels excellent at times!

But that goes to show you how popular the series is and how well Robert Jordan portrays the world and its characters.

The Color of Magic on ION Tonight at 6PM

Terry Pratchett is most well known for his first novel that took place in Discworld, a fantasy realm balanced on the backs of four elephants, which themselves stand atop a huge turtle (as seen in the introduction of the video below if you cant imagine it yourself). The Color of Magic was first released on television in Britain back in 2008, today marks the first day it will be available to the public in the United States (pending you get ION).

I have been a huge fan of Terry Pratchett for the last couple of years. Sadly it took me that long to even run across his writings in the library system! Now I can't get enough of him! Terry creates amazing worlds and settings with great characters that come to life as you are reading. Whimsical and sometimes for a younger audience, Terry's books still speak to readers of all ages. A librarian even tried to point me to the "adult" section of the audio books one time while I was examining a few of Terry's creations! She sure didn't know what she was missing! :)

Along the way Rincewind encounters a few problems: firstly, as an expert coward, he doesn’t feel he’s the best person to guard a naive - and extremely rich, by local standards - tourist through one of the roughest cities in the multiverse. Star Wars: The Old Republic, Threat of Peace Comic

If you haven't had a chance to view the Star Wars: The Old Republic, Threat of Peace web comic, they just released Issue #2! Threat of Peace is a collaborative effort between BioWare, LucasArts and Dark Horse Comics. There is a new issue released twice each month. The web comic is a "dramatic and exciting introduction to The Old Republic time period and many of the characters who appear in the game."

What game you ask? Star Wars: The Old Republic by Bioware; a new Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG or MMO) that is due to be released at an unknown time and is currently in testing. Visit the official site for more information.

Currently we are on Act 1: Treaty of Coruscant, Issue #2. These comics are short but sweet; each issue thus far is 6 pages packed full of energy. It even looks like we have the basic model for Darth Vader's armor in Issue #2. Let me know if you see what I saw!

R2-D2 has a new friend!

R2-D2 has a new friend; Meet Beer2-D3! This masterpiece was created by Paul Loughridge, aka "Lockwasher".

Below is what Beer2-D3 was created from:
-Head - 1945 chrome BLC utility light shell.
-Eye - vintage movie camera lens w/adjustable spring-loaded aluminum casing.
-Body - 4.7 liter “adult soda” mini-keg.
-Legs - propane tank valve handles, brass spacers, drilled-out washers, pair of aluminum Lady Josephine shoe butler (wall-mounted shoe shine holders).
-Feet/base - 3 mini bread loaf pans, lamp hardware and a 1/2″ precision drilled aluminum base plate.
+assorted nuts, bolts, screws and, of course - lockwashers!

Very cool. He is a "rolling" billboard for Heinekin but the best use of a keg I have ever seen! Imagine the awkward bleeps and bloops he could greet you with as you decide you need a cold one. Someone might just be the life of the party!

The Sci Fi Channel called me a geek!

Bye! Bye! Sci Fi channel. Hello...SyFy?

“The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular,” Tim Brooks (helped launch the network)

What a quote! Due to this stereotype the Sci Fi channel is changing their name July 7th, 2009 to "SyFy" with the tagline "Imagine Greater". They will be making the transition over a 6-12 month period. They feel like the name will appeal to a wider audience and further distance themselves from Science Fiction as a whole. They want to "own the imagination space".

Behold the new logo. I'm not impressed, but I guess I was their prior target audience. Now I am just part of the new "general public and female audience". Luckily they still have some great shows, and some that aren't so great. The "Sci Fi Channel" will forever live in my mind. May you rest in peace my beloved.

"Fool's Gold" by Larry Elmore

Larry Elmore just found and released to the public 50 lithograph prints of his "Fool's Gold" painting which was completed for a Dragon Magazine cover back in 1988. The lithograph was a huge success and has been sold out for years. Larry apparently came across these gems while hunting for luggage! The hidden treasures we sometimes find in our own spaces are amazing!

This lithograph is for the avid Snarfquest fan and will sell out fast! Snarfquest is a graphic novel that originally ran in Dragon Magazine from 1983-1989. Snarfquest: The Graphic Novel was published in 2000 as a 224 page collection. SnarfQuest currently appears in all-new full color stories as a bimonthly feature in the magazine Games Unplugged.

I recently came across a cheap White Darth Vader on eBay! Someone actually wasn't trying to charge full retail price for a loose figure, of which isn't even the entire comic pack it was released with! So now, Darth Vader (white) faces Darth Vader (black) on my bookshelf for the ultimate lightsaber duel. Quite remarkable really.

In other news my daugher fed our dragons again yesterday. I thought that phase went away but apparently not. Why should I expect so when the house is subtly adorned with them? Better yet, I have never stopped "feeding the dragons" and love "living" in fantasy worlds, so why should I expect anything else from a child with a great imagination?

Last, the kitchen Ogres threatened to throw quite a rucuss, and possibly bite, if there home gets moved. They are quite comfortable.

Renegade Wizards by Lucien Soulban

As the third installment of the "Tracy Hickman presents..." series, Renegade Wizards by Lucien Soulban does not dissapoint! The first in the series was The Sellsword by Cam Banks and the second was The Survivors by Dan Willis. I personally had never heard of Lucien Soulban prior to this March 4, 2009 release, but fans are going wild already!

Here is a wonderful testament to this great addition in the Dragonlance series:

3 "New" Larry Elmore Prints Available!

Today Larry Elmore released three new prints: Into The Skie, Star Frontiers, and Evil Alliance. Into The Skie was completed in February 2009, Evil Alliance is unknown with no publish date, and Star Frontiers is from the classic TSR science fiction role playing game. Each will cost you between $25-$350 depending on the size, print type, and limited edition status. Look for my tribute to Larry Elmore in the upcoming weeks. He is one of my favorite fantasy artists and I absolutely love his artwork!

Dragons of the Hourglass Mage by Weis & Hickman

Dragons of the Hourglass Mage: The Lost Chronicles, Volume Three by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman is due to be released in Hardcover on August 4, 2009 (according to Amazon). I am sure this volume will prove to be a successful addition to the world of Dragonlance and further the Lost Chronicles series which started with Dragons of the Dwarven Depths (Book 1) & Dragons of the Highlord Skies (Book 2) back in 2006 and 2007.

I personally cannot wait to hear more in depth about Raislit Majere and why he dawned the black robes. I loved book 1 and 2 as it really fills in some of the gaps that Krynn offers. You have a lot of "OH!" moments when you realize why things happened the way they did in other novels or what was occuring whilst something else was. Truly amazing and I love then authors take on the task to "complete" their original works and flesh them out.

Terminator Salvation: Trailer

Terminator Salvation is finally a Terminator movie I am excited to see! Every new trailer, video, photo, or interview that is released makes me wish it was May 21st, 2009! Terminator Salvation is the fourth movie in the Terminator series and is both a sequel and prequel at the same time which is interesting in itself. This time around the movie will not include Arnold which is why some believe it will not be a success, but others such as myself believe it will be even better without him! The third official trailer for Terminator Salvation was recently released on the official website and also here on YouTube. Enjoy!

On May 23, 2008, Warner Bros. released the following plot summary for the film:
"Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor (Christian Bale), the man fated to be the leader of the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators, and the future he was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. I found this on a blog I frequent called SF-Fandom. Normally I don't like to repost blogs I have already read but this was just HILARIOUS. It really gets you to understand the multiverse and its many complexities. Alright, not so much understand...more like braing boggling in a humorous way...but it gets you thinking. Like "what the heck is he talking about!? Serious!?". It truly is quite intrigueing though. Sit through the 5 minutes. It's worth it!

If you did not already know, March 8th-14th is "Read an E-Book Week"! Save a tree or two, cleanse your hands of their blood (It's just sap but you get the point) and enjoy this guilt free week! Visit the official website of Read an E-Book Week and find numerous resources and partners that are allowing you to read their books for free! One of which is Random House who recently released their Free Fantasy and Science Fiction Library, Suduvu, on March 4th 2009.

The Suduvu Free Book Library currently features work from Naomi Novik, Robin Hobb, Harry Turtledove, Kim Stanley Robinson and T.A. Pratt. From each author a series is chosen, and the first book of that series is completely free to download and read! This is a clever marketing strategy on their part, but in the end we all win! I have already begun reading "Blood Engines" by T.A. Pratt and would have never picked up this book if it hadn't been for this promotion. This is a great opportunity to expand your literary horizons.

Featured Fantasy Creature: the Drog

Periodically I create a write-up on a fantasy creature that is featured in some of my short stories. This posts Featured Fantasy Creature: the Drog.

The name is derived from "frog" and "dragon" because of the wings amazing similiarity to that of a dragons. These awkward creatures are fun to watch fly through the forest and over grass fields. With their plump frog-like bodies and dragon-like wings, they soar through the air one short flight at a time.

Their leathery membrane wings can support them for only short distances, approximately three yards, and then they plummit to the ground, landing on all four legs with a thud. Their eyes protrude from the head slightly and are normally a shade of amber. There are two sets of eyelids that flicker open and shut every few seconds. With four sets of legs, the hind legs are approximately twice the size as the front legs to propel them off of the object they sit and into the air. The back two webbed extremities include five digits; the front two consist of four digits.

Their skin is sleak, smooth, and cool to the touch. The body and wings are of very similiar color with the wings being a slighly lighter shade of the body color. Common types include emeralds (green) and browns (brown). Uncommon types include silver (gray). Rare types include goldens (yellow). There may be undiscovered color variations at this time. Some Drogs have splotches or patches of varying colors upon their skin but are not a prominent feature. Few scholars believe this is a sort of camoflouge some are developing, while others believe these Drogs are impure and abominations of nature.

Upon sensing danger these creatures will merely stop moving all together in hopes that their perceived predator glances past them and moves on. Effective, at times, but this could be the very reason they are quite rare to come across in the wild since most of the time their predators win the encounter. I never claimed they were very smart.

Many have tried capturing these creatures with little success. Thus far those that have managed to do so end up no better in the end. Each captive Drog seems to rather die then move to eat, drink, or even procreate.

Most of the species are believed to be males; with a belief that the golden Drogs are the females. Mating has never been witnessed, but most likely it takes place in the privacy of thick forests and other areas with dense vegitation and coverage.

"Dragon Girl"

A child's imagination is an amazing thing. I love dragons, and my 2 year old daughter, almost 3, does too! I occassionally call her my "Dragon Girl" and she will even growl and breathe fire at me occassionally! I haven't taught her that dragon's breathe fire so I'm not exactly sure where she got that from but it is funny to watch her face as she produces the "flame".

She loves dragons on a whole new level though. In our son's room, which used to be the office and my wife's craft room, there are numerous dragon statues ranging in size from 10"-18" tall and quite impressive in my opinion. Anyway, one day Dragon Girl was in the room with us while we were putting our son to sleep for the night. All of a sudden she started making a throwing motion towards the dragons which are on a high shelf. I asked her what she was doing and she said quite matter of fact "Feeding the dragons daddy". And boy was she feeding the dragons.

Apparently they enjoyed it as much as she did! Soon Dragon Girl was telling me to sit on the dragon so we could fly through the house together. "Like this daddy!" she commanded. It was pretty hilarious, all I could do was smile and well...get on the dragon with her! It was a fantastic ride through the hallway...I was only corrected once on how to ride the dragon. After the trip through the hallway and into the dining room and back, the dragon flew back to his perch on the top shelf; tired and well fed.

Quite an amazing journey and an amazing daughter indeed.

Everquest Fans Give Back!

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and it's player base raised over $20,000 this week for the Child's Play charity. They sold virtual "Child's Play" items in Everquest and Everquest 2; each time one was sold SOE donated $10 to the cause. Child’s Play is dedicated to providing children with toys and age-appropriate games, toys, and movies; making their visit a little bit more tolerable.

Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade are the minds behind the creation of Child's Play and are doing a fantastic job! Originally Child's Play was created to give the the 190,000+ kids treated annually at the Seattle Children's Hospital a great Christmas back in 2003. They partnered with Amazon.com to deliver the opportunity for its fan base, 4.5 million strong at the time, to give back to the children, and it was an astounding success. Fast forward to 2008 and Child's Play is involved with over 60 Hospitals world wide and gamers donated over $1.4 million!

Head on over to the Child's Play website and read a little more about the non-profit organization that makes children's visits to hospitals wordwide just a bit more tolerable...and possibly even a little fun! You can purchase a very creative t-shirt to promote the cause as well! Give back!

Disney Star Wars 2009 Figures

Disney has announced that the final four Star Wars Disney character statues will be available this summer! Mickey Luke, Minnie Leia, Goofy Chewie, and Donald in Carbonite will be released with a limited edition of 600; 500 of which will be solely available at Hollywood Studios; 100 of each to Disneyland. They will be sold for a whopping $195; $5 cheaper than last year!

In 2008 we got to see Donald Duck as Darth Maul, Goofy as Jar Jar, Mickey as Anakin, and Minnie as Queen Amidala with the same limited edition run. I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at these figures, but have not had the pleasure to own them due to the steep price involved. I try to limit my action figures to $20 tops if possible! If you get a chance to visit Disneyland or Hollywood Studios during the Star Wars celebration have fun!

Star Wars: Infinities - Return of the Jedi

Don't adjust your eyes or your monitor...Darth Vader really is white, and this isn't some crazed fans action figure modification! I saw this Darth Vader in my local Target, did a lap around the store, came back to buy it, and it was GONE! I was not happy. Not sure why I didn't pick it up in the first place but I figured I would never see another one for sale (in a store) again. So, I went home to do a little research and found out this is part of the Star Wars Infinities series where alternate plots occur such as Leia joining the Dark Side and as you see here, Darth Vader joining the Light Side and dawning a bleached costume.

Here is a run down of what occurs courtesy of Wikipedia:
"On the Death Star, Palpatine orders Vader to kill Leia. Luke unleashes his lightsaber and duels with Vader himself. Leia attempts to intervene, but is subdued by Force Lightning from the Emperor, allowing Luke and Vader's duel to continue.

Han, despite his blindness, takes Chewbacca's place in the Falcon’s gunner turret after Chewbacca is injured. The Falcon flies down to Endor and destroys the shield generator, allowing the Rebel fleet in space to enter the half-completed Death Star. Lando takes the Falcon back to the Death Star to rescue Luke and Leia.

Luke continues to duel Vader, revealing to him that both he and Leia are his children. Vader is stunned by the revelation, but strikes down Luke at the cost of one of his arms. However, Vader is unable to kill his own children and surrenders, causing him to turn from the dark side of the Force.

During the duel, the Emperor escapes and Luke and Leia carry the wounded Vader to the Falcon waiting in the docking bay and escape before the Death Star explodes. Sometime later, on the Rebel flagship, Mon Mothma informs Luke that the Emperor is alive and still a threat. Anakin, now clad in a white variation of the suit he wore as Vader, agrees to help the Rebels track down Palpatine."

Quite interesting. I always wondered "what if"...and apparently I was not the only one. If you ever run into one and want to sell it at a decent price, not eBay sellers insane prices, please let me know! I will be forever in your debt! May the Force be with you! (I had to do it)

Robin Hood (BBC Version)

If you haven't had the chance to watch the BBC version of Robin Hood you are missing out! I came across this television series while adding some of the 450+ movies on my Netflix account that I will never watch. Luckily, this one made it to the top!

A short description from the Robin Hood BBC Homepage:
"Filmed in Budapest, Robin Hood is a unique blend of exhilarating action adventure, wit and romance. Robin Hood's striking new look (no tights), coupled with the sharp scripts, updates the popular legend for a sophisticated contemporary audience. Full of action, humour and romance, Robin Hood outwits and delights us as he fights the authority of the evil Sheriff of Nottingham with outrageous scams and incredible swordplay."

Season 2 ended December of 2007 and Season 3 will begin again sometime in 2009. The writing overall is great. There is some humor that I just don't get, but overall it is very enjoyable and not overdone as some shows do to try and make something funny that clearly is not.

This television series adds depth and detail into Robin Hood's life before he was an outlaw as a noble and afterward as he tries to stop the Sheriff of Nottingham. Jonas Armstrong plays Robin Hood and is amazing with his clever wit and charm.

Lucy Griffith, who plays Marian, perfectly portrays an "innocent" nobles daughter and still gives the believability that she truly could be a rebel with a similiar cause to Robin Hood's.

The rest of the cast is excellent as well. There are some characters that you want to slap, others you want to hug, if you are that type of person, and others you really relate too. As I said in the opening statement, if you haven't seen Robin Hood done the BBC way go find and watch it today! You won't be dissapointed!

Keith Parkinson - "Master of Fantasy Art"

I figured for my first blog post I would write a tribute to one of my favorite fantasy artists, Keith Parkinson. The man touched many lives and will be remembered in the hearts and minds of past and future generations.

From fantasy series such as Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms to authors such as Terry Goodkind and Margaret Weis; Keith Parkinson's book covers have captured the imaginations of millions and set new standards for the fantasy and science fiction genre.

Left you will see "North Watch". This was the first painting that introduced me to Keith Parkinson and I still adore it to this day. "North Watch" was the first painting I had to have in my dragon collection. It's really what invigorated my love for dragons. To this day I still do not have a print or giclee, and I just ran across the re-opened Keith Parkinson website and they are available! It's too bad I have no where to place such a fine piece of artwork.

Keith truly knew how to paint both in-depth landscapes and yet minimal landscapes at the same time. The original landscape and character painting Keith did for the MMORPG Everquest was the second painting I fell in love with. This one I do own but sadly it sits propped against a wall in its all too expensive frame and matting. There were 3 total in the Everquest series, one for each expansion up to that point ("Scars of Velious", "Planes of Power", and "Shadows of Luclin").

Left you will see "Druid Stone", one of Keith's paintings he did for the shear joy of painting...and it shows. This is an excellent testament to what a great artist can do with just a love for the genre. "He (Keith) wasn’t just a painter; he was a true artist, who found layers of depth in everything he did, who breathed life into canvas and emotions into paint." (R.A. Salvatore).

Here you will find Wizards of the Coasts' tribute to Keith Parkinson with quite a few farewell statements and sentiments about his artwork, the great person he was, and the great friendships and lasting impressions he made.

Thank you Donna, Mary, Nicolas and Zachary for sharing Keith with us. Your insight into our beloved fantasy worlds will never be forgotten Keith. You will be missed!
